Jesus gave His disciples 2 ordinances: one to celebrate a disciple’s entrance into the New Covenant community (baptism), and one to commemorate the basis for a disciple’s inclusion in the New Covenant community (the Lord’s Supper). We believe there has been much misunderstanding concerning the section dealing with “examining yourselves” before observing the Lord’s Supper.
